While the assembly attended the parade of the luxury brand Coach, specializing in leather goods and leather clothing, two young women have joined the parade of models. Activists of the PETA animal rights association – which has often distinguished itself with shock and sometimes controversial campaigns – they marched for denounce the use of leather in the manufacture of clothing. The first, almost naked, had painted her body in such a way as to imitate that of a skinned person. On his chest are inscribed in English the words “Coach: leather kills”. She is followed by another young woman dressed in a powder pink top and matching skirt, carrying a sign with the same message. In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the association shows them walking one behind the other, before they are stopped by security agents.

“Today’s conscientious consumers know that the future of fashion lies in innovative vegan materials, not sliced cowhide”says Tracy Reiman, executive vice president of PETA, in a statement from the association. “PETA shakes up Coach’s podium to convey the message that leather belongs to the annals of history, and not to the current collections of designers“, she adds. In the same press release, PETA denounces the mistreatment of animals by Coach’s supplier. The luxury brand has not published an official reaction.

On the social network their militant act received a mixed reception. Some Internet users welcomed the initiative, while others questioned its relevance.
