Elon Musk wants to counter the AI high-flyer ChatGPT with his own chatbot. He has already raised more than a hundred million dollars. The bot “loves sarcasm,” announces the tech billionaire.
Elon Musk wants to give his artificial intelligence company xAI a hefty capital injection and raise a billion dollars from investors. This emerges from a communication to the US financial regulator SEC. According to Musk, xAI should develop AI tools that “support humanity in its pursuit of understanding and knowledge.” According to the announcement, $135 million has already been raised from four investors.
Musk founded xAI in July. It recently presented its first project, the chatbot “Grok”. The program is intended to access information in real time from the social media platform X, which also belongs to Musk. The bot “loves sarcasm,” said Musk. “I wonder who steered it in that direction.” Grok is designed in such a way that it answers questions humorously.
The English word “grok” comes from the jargon of programmers and means in German: “to understand something deeply”. Musk wants to use “Grok” to compete, among other things, with the popular chatbot ChatGPT from OpenAI, which has triggered an AI frenzy in the tech industry.
Musk wants regulation
Musk was one of the co-founders of OpenAI in 2015. But he left three years later after a dispute over control of the company. Musk criticizes ChatGPT as “tainted by the ‘wokeness virus’.” The English term “woke” means something like “to be awake” and initially referred to racial discrimination. Nowadays, conservatives and libertarians in particular use it in a derogatory way because the commitment against various types of discrimination and the demands derived from it go too far for them.
Musk has long tried to influence the development of artificial intelligence. At the same time, he expresses concerns about safety risks and calls for government regulation. He recently compared AI to a “genie in a bottle”. She can fulfill all your wishes – but fairy tales rarely end well.
However, according to ChatGPT, most traditional fairy tales end “happily.” A story is often told “in which the main character(s) overcome various challenges and ultimately find happiness or receive a reward. This reflects one of the main functions of fairy tales: to convey moral concepts and to depict good versus evil, whereby the Good things often triumph in the end.”
