Netflix released Agent Stone this week, an action movie starring Gal Gadot that most likely marks the start of a new blockbuster franchise.

Netflix knows a thing or two about franchising. If we take a look at his top 10 most watched movies on the platform, seven of them have had or will have a sequel. Their common point: a 5-star cast and a lot of action. Agent Stone, which is now available on the platform, ticks both of these boxes. It is the Israeli superstar Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) who holds the headliner. This is not her first collaboration with Netflix since she also played in another blockbuster from the American giant, Red Notice.
The film was sold from the start by Netflix as a “feminine James Bond”, with the (unhidden) ambition of playing in the big leagues. By releasing two months after Mission Impossible 7 and making Artificial Intelligence its heart of intrigue, Agent Stone makes Gal Gadot an Ethan Hunt ready to do anything to save his team.
The universe developed in the film – that of an agency decorrelated from any government – can be explored even more in depth. And the ending hints that we’re not done hearing Rachel Stone speak. After saving the Heart and reintegrating the Charter, the young woman enjoins the hacker Keya (Alia Bhatt) to join her team. Currently, Agent Stone 2 has not yet been announced by Netflix, which is waiting to see the viewing figures for the first 28 days. But its director Tom Harper said in a interview given to EW his desire to make it a Jason Bourne-style franchise: “There are still many things to explore with Rachel, with the Charter, the Heart. We must first see if subscribers will be receptive to it, but I am rather excited by the idea.”
