An 88-year-old man succumbed to his injuries overnight from Friday to Saturday after a violent attack on Monday in his cellar in Bezons in Val-d’Oise, for which two neighbors were arrested, a woman told AFP. police sources. Around 7 p.m. Monday, the octogenarian goes down to the cellar of his building. Not seeing him return, his wife goes there in turn an hour later.

In the basement, she first meets a neighbor sitting on a sofa, who tells her that he has not seen her husband. But “in the second common room, she discovers her husband on the ground, his head bloody, unconscious” reported the police source.

One of the two men with an “ultraviolent profile”

Initially considered by the emergency services as an accidental fall, the case arouses the doubts of the police and is entrusted on Wednesday to investigators from the Val-d’Oise judicial police. In the process, they challenge two brothers living in the building with their mother, one of whom was the individual present in the cellar at the time of the discovery.

If one of the brothers was hospitalized, the other, a 30-year-old man with an “ultraviolent profile” and known to the police, ended up confessing. He was indicted on Friday and imprisoned. Having received a “succession of blows”, according to the police source, the victim died four days later at Argenteuil hospital. The exact motive for the assault remains unclear.
