Yuriy, a 14-year-old teenager, was beaten up in January 2021 on the Beaugrenelle slab.
The investigating judge responsible for investigating the violent attack on young Yuriy in early 2021 in Paris, against the backdrop of a conflict between gangs of young people, ordered Tuesday, October 18 the referral to criminal trial of 13 teenagers or young men, learned the ‘AFP from a source familiar with the matter.
Six of them, aged 15 to 18 at the time of the events, will appear for “attempted murderabout the seriously injured schoolboy who was about to celebrate his 15th birthday. In his order, of which AFP was aware, the investigating judge considers that “the facts are part of a context of rivalry between young individuals, residents of the 15th arrondissement of Paris, forming the RD4 gang on the one hand, and that of the Vanves plateau on the other hand“.
“Act of Vengeance”
“It is established that the assault on Yuriy (…) was an act of revenge in response to the assault sufferedfive days earlier by the half-brother and cousin of two of the respondents, according to the magistrate. In detail, the investigating judge very largely followed the requisitions of the Paris public prosecutor’s office and ordered the referral to the Assize Court for minors in Paris of six young men aged 16 to 17 and two aged 18. at the time of the facts, as well as the referral to the juvenile court ruling in criminal matters of four minors aged 14 to 15 years.
Two trials should therefore be held, possibly behind closed doors given the age at the time of the facts of the mis en cause. Born in Ukraine in 2006, Yuriy was taken to hospital in serious condition after being beaten on the evening of January 15, 2021, while he was with friends on the Beaugrenelle slab, the roof fitted out of a shopping center in the 15th arrondissement of the capital.

His attack, documented on a video, had been widely attributed to a settling of scores between rival gangs against a backdrop of provocations on social networks. The broadcast on these networks on January 22 of around twenty seconds of images of his attack had aroused many reactions, both from President Emmanuel Macron and from footballer Antoine Griezmann.
