Aggression of Yvan Colonna: a demonstration of support expected this Sunday in Bastia

Several Corsican separatists called for mobilization this Sunday, March 13 in Bastia, in support of Yvan Colonna, still in a coma after his attack in Arles prison.

Despite the reluctance of Yvan Colonna’s family, who fear “a new tragedy”, several independence demonstrators called for mobilization on Sunday March 13 at 3 p.m. in Bastia. This event follows ten days of constant tension since the attack on Yvan Colonna, which occurred on Wednesday March 2 in Arles prison.

At the end of these numerous urban violences, Prime Minister Jean Castex proceeded on Friday March 11 to withdraw the status of “particularly reported detainee”, attributed to Pierre Alessandri and Alain Ferrandi. Also sentenced to life for the murder of the prefect Claude Erignac, the two accomplices of Yvan Colonna were unable to get closer to Corsica, no prison on the island being authorized to accommodate this type of detainee.

Jean Castex’s gesture was not enough to satisfy the support of the three detainees: “It’s a first step, but it’s not enough,” said Simon Paulu Ferrandi. The son of Alain Ferrandi said he wanted the effective reconciliation of the two detainees imprisoned in Poissy (Yvelines), as well as their release.

A parliamentary inquiry commission requested

Éric Barbosa, Pierre Alessandri’s lawyer, welcomed Jean Castex’s gesture, deploring all the same a too late decision: “What is unfortunate is that it took a drama of such magnitude and especially such consequences in Corsica so that the French state finally decides to apply the law,” he told AFP. Among the demands of Yvan Colonna’s supporters is the opening of a parliamentary commission of inquiry into the attack on Yvan Colonna.

If the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin and Jean Castex seem ready to undertake mediation with Corsica, the Prime Minister was indignant at the slogan: “French State assassin”, which would imply that the French State would have “lent intentionally hand in the very serious aggression of which Yvan Colonna was the victim”.
