Agreement with Congo-Kinshasa in corruption scandal

The Swiss commodities group Glencore has already had to pay more than 1.5 billion dollars in fines to authorities in the USA, Brazil and Great Britain. A payment to Congo-Kinshasa is added. Glencore hopes to put their past behind them.

Glencore also operates copper mines in Congo-Kinshasa, such as here near the town of Kolwezi.

The Swiss raw materials group Glencore is already doing its spring cleaning for the upcoming winter season. One day before the Investor Day, the Baar-based company announced that it had reached an agreement with Congo-Kinshasa. With a payment of 180 million dollars, the group is getting rid of all other claims by the African state that could arise in connection with cases of corruption between 2007 and 2018. This affects investigations conducted by the US Department of Justice and Congo-Kinshasa authorities, among others.
