While the FNSEA and the Young Farmers were received this Tuesday at the Élysée, several striking operations were carried out by the farmers. To calm their anger, the government is even planning to organize a major debate with them next Saturday during the Agricultural Show.

Several strike operations were carried out by farmers this Tuesday, while the two main unions were received at the Élysée. Farmers are maintaining pressure on the ground, such as in Le Mans where transport trucks were targeted and emptied of all their foreign goods. The demonstrators are also blocking the A62 at the Castelsarrasin toll, towards Montauban. Emmanuel Macron, for his part, tries to play appeasement during these meetings. Concretely, how does this happen?

A big debate at the Agricultural Show?

Constructive meetings, according to one of the participants. And to calm things down, the Élysée is even considering organizing a major debate with farmers on Saturday morning, before the President of the Republic’s visit to the Agricultural Show. The government wants to avoid booing against the head of state at all costs. Images that would make a mark when Jordan Bardella could be greeted with applause the next day. Gabriel Attal therefore plans to make new announcements, particularly on breeding.

However, Bruno Le Maire wants to stop spending after having already put 400 million euros on the table last month. The Prime Minister will therefore hold a two-stage press conference on Wednesday morning. First, the presentation of the agricultural bill on the simplification of standards and transmission, followed by a progress report on aid, the CAP and sanctions against companies which do not respect the Egalim law. Communication that the executive hopes will be sufficient to ease tensions.
