The Ahsoka series arrives in August on Disney+. There are several points to keep in mind before discovering the adventures of the Jedi, especially if you do not know her story.
In August, Disney+ will host the first episodes of the series Ahsokawhich is highly anticipated by fans of Star Wars. The latter are certainly inexhaustible about this Jedi, who belongs to the Togruta species. But for those who are not very specific on this universe, there are several notable elements that it is better to have in mind.
A character born in an animated film
Before being embodied in the series by American actress Rosario Dawson, Ahsoka Tano was above all an animated character. His very first appearance dates from 2008, with several scenes in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Subsequently, her story was expanded into other media, including three animated series: The Clone Wars, Rebels And Tales of the Jedi.
His birth and youth are recounted in Tales of the Jedi
Since its introduction into the world of Star Warsthe life of Ahsoka Tano turns out to be rather well documented. Tales of the Jedi, whose first season was released in 2022, looks back in particular on the early years of the young Togruta. The following series as well as the film dwell more on her training as a Jedi apprentice, when the clone wars broke out.

Ahsoka Tano is an emeritus Jedi, whose training could not be completed. She nevertheless had a talented trainer: Anakin Skywalker. The ex-padawan of Obi-Wan Kenobi tried to inculcate, in his own way, what it is necessary to know about the handling of the lightsaber, but also of the Force. Alas, Anakin Skywalker will eventually sink into the Dark Side, becoming Darth Vader.
Ahsoka happens between films VI (Return of the Jedi) and VII (The force awakens)
Series Ahsoka will take place between the original trilogy, screened between 1977 and 1983, and the postlogy, which was broadcast from 2015 to 2019. Chronologically, it will take place years after the main adventures experienced by the heroine Togruta and that the we can follow in The Clone Wars (film and series) and Rebels (series). Ahsoka is therefore much older, mature and experienced.
Ahsoka is part of the mandoverse
Several television series on Star Wars are linked to each other. The central series is The Mandalorian, which has three seasons, while a fourth is in the works. Around her gravitate The Boba Fett Book (one season) and Ahsoka (one season, pending a sequel). A film is planned for the cinema to conclude the mandoverse, during the 2020 decade.
Big Bad Thrawn was born in a novel
Mitth’raw’nuruodo, aka Thrawn, is clearly the next big villain of the Star Wars franchise – at least for the series Ahsoka and for the film that will close the mandoverse. But before being a character embodied on screen by actor Lars Mikkelsen, he was a character in a novel. It first appears in The Heir to the Empirefirst volume of a trilogy written by Timothy Zahn.
There is an “explanation” justifying its absence in the trilogy
Ahsoka is a character invented in 2008, decades after the original trilogy. However, his adventures take place Before. To resolve this conflict and explain why this Jedi is not helping the rebellion against the Empire, we have invented a quest for her across the galaxy to find a missing loved one. That’s why we don’t see her in the movies.
Ahsoka made her ‘real life’ debut in two other series
It’s not with the series Ahsoka that this character will make his live-action media debut. In fact, the Jedi debuted as actress Rosario Dawson in an episode of The Mandalorian (episode 5, season 2) and in an episode of Boba Fett book (episode 6, season 1). They aired in November 2020 and February 2022 respectively.
His fate may already be sealed
Ahsoka does not appear in any film Star Wars nowadays. At least, in no film in real shots (there is certainly the animated feature film). There is, however, a subtle scene at the very end of Episode IX — The Rise of Skywalker — in which we hear his voice, through the Force. This could just be a strong clue to his destiny (beware of spoilers).
