AI and ChatGPT push Nvidia past $1 trillion on the stock market

(BFM Bourse) – The specialist in graphics processors exceeds 1000 billion dollars in capitalization on Wall Street on Tuesday, a first for a manufacturer of semiconductors.

It was only a matter of days… Up 4% from the first exchanges on Wall Street, Nvidia had enough impetus to become this Tuesday the first semiconductor manufacturer to cross the symbolic threshold of 1000 billion dollars of capitalization. At $407.12 per share, Nvidia claims a market cap of $1.007 billion.

The American group thus joins the very closed club of companies that have passed this milestone, such as Alphabet, Amazon, Apple or Microsoft.

Before Tuesday, the American specialist in graphics processors was on the right track to exceed this bar of 1000 billion dollars in capitalization. It already weighed nearly 970 billion dollars on the stock market last week and the publication of quarterly results above expectations. Better still, the prospects announced by the group also delighted the markets. He said he was counting on a turnover of 11 billion dollars, which would reflect a vertiginous jump of more than 60% over one year.

Since this high-flying publication, Nvidia has experienced unprecedented enthusiasm with a 33% increase in its share, confirming its spectacular surge since the start of the year, with a jump of nearly 180%.

A pronounced enthusiasm for AI

The company founded 30 years ago by Jensen Huang, still at the helm of the group, is benefiting from the stock market frenzy around the rise of ChatGPT, and, more broadly, generative artificial intelligence (AI). The American group indeed dominates the market for graphics chips and they are essential for advanced tasks and applications in artificial intelligence. A winning position for the Californian company and which has made it possible to compensate for the large decline in its historical video game segment over the past six months.

Besides, this frenzy around AI may not stop anytime soon. This weekend, Nvidia unveiled a series of projects based on artificial intelligence during Computex, one of the world’s premier exhibitions dedicated to computing and electronics.

“We have now arrived at a tipping point towards a new era of computing with the acceleration of calculations and AI which is today adopted by almost all IT companies and all cloud specialists,” said its founder. .
