AI: Apple negotiates with OpenAI to introduce its technology in the next iPhones

Apple and the creator of ChatGPT, OpenAI, are currently holding discussions. They could enable the arrival of generative AI tools on the iPhone!

Apple’s ambitions on AI are starting to become known. While the most popular products, like Gemini, are accessible on the internet, the Cupertino company hopes to be able to attract customers by offering AI locally, without having to connect to the web. But the Californian company also aspires to benefit from the sector’s more traditional tools, which leads it to discuss with giants like OpenAI.

Discussions for AI to penetrate iPhones

Apple and OpenAI have resumed discussions on the integration of the latter’s technology inside the iPhone, we learn Reuters. The giant founded by Steve Jobs hopes to be able to offer generative AI functions developed by OpenAI in its smartphones.

The discussions concern both the terms of an arrangement, but also how the technology of Sam Altman’s company could marry with iPhones. The objective is to have a first result with the release of iOS 18.

Between OpenAI and Google, Apple’s heart is swinging

In the field of generative AI, Apple is an open player, and one that encourages competition. Because despite its prestige, OpenAI is not the only company that the bitten apple brand has contacted, exchanges also taking place between the latter and Google, exchanges relating to the potential arrival of Gemini on the iPhone.

According to Bloomberg, no final decision would be made within Apple. It would thus be possible for the giant to choose one of the two partners, or both, or even quite simply to move towards a new choice.
