AI: Gmail and Docs can write drafts for you

Google plans to bring new AI-powered tools to its Workspace suite of apps. In a blog post on Tuesday, the search giant said it was testing AI generative writing features in Gmail and Docs. Something to help users get started in the writing process.

“Just type in a topic you’d like to write about and a draft will be instantly generated for you,” the Google post reads. “With your collaborative AI partner, you can keep refining and editing, getting more suggestions as needed.”

Google suggests the tool can be used to help create personalized job descriptions or birthday invitations. The company is also exploring the possibility of integrating AI tools into Slides, Sheets, Meet and Chat.

The start of a revolution

The new AI tools will first be available to a “limited group of testers” before being released to the public, Google said in its blog post. Features should start rolling out to testers in the coming weeks. “When it comes to harnessing the full potential of generative AI in Workspace, we’re only at the beginning,” Google said.
