After Microsoft’s ChatGPT and Bing, it’s Google Workspace’s turn to benefit from generative AI technology. Google has indeed announced that a beta version of its generative AI will be deployed on its online tools grouped in Google Workspace, with testers initially. AI will transform the way people use Gmail, Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Meet and Chat apps, Google promises.
Google Workspace (Ex G Suite) is the ultra-complete workspace created by Google for professionals (companies and schools) bringing together all of its applications and specific tools.

For years, Google has used AI to power Smart Compose in Gmail and auto-generated summaries in Google Docs. As you type, a predicted word or phrase appears in translucent letters, and users can swipe or press the tab key to complete the predicted words.
Gmail and Docs write for you
With new features from Google, generative AI will help users write even more, and with less context. You can enter a subject in Gmail and Docs, and the rest will be written for you. For example, in a blog post, Google suggests that hiring managers could use this new feature to write a welcome email to a new employee. The AI will draft the email in seconds; all you have to do is adapt it to your writing style, your tone and your voice.
In a long thread, you can ask the AI to summarize your conversation. Based on this conversation, you can go to Docs and have the AI write a brief or an entire campaign. You can tailor the tone and voice to your business goals and company culture.
The automatically generated Slides presentation
The new tools can then build an accompanying Slides presentation based on what the AI wrote in your brief. Depending on the written content of the slideshow, images, themes and colors can be uniquely adapted to the presentation. In the presentation, the AI can write your notes.
In Google Sheets, users can create custom messages in the spreadsheet for clients or collaborators about the case or campaign.
Personalized chat messages and Meet workflows
In chat, you can have the AI create personalized messages for individuals or a team to thank them for participating. Depending on how you feel about the created post, you can have the AI rewrite it to flesh it out, add bullet points, shorten it, make it more formal, or use the ” I feel lucky” from Google for a random tone.
Google Meet will allow users to create workflows to increase productivity in formal and business conversations.
What this means for you
Google’s new generative AI features are not yet available to the general public. And we don’t know exactly when they will be available. For now, Google is only beta testing the AI in English to make sure it works as it should.
Google says the company ensures that users remain in control of the AI and its writing. This means that it is always possible to modify the production of the AI.
