AI projects for makers

Neural networks on microcontrollers and small computers – this is no longer a utopia. In order to upgrade your projects with artificial intelligence, you don’t have to toil underground in a secret laboratory: It’s enough to deal with freely available libraries and current hardware. For our small AI focus, we have selected three exciting projects: AI controls follow me drone, AI for the ESP32 and Programming a chatbot in AIML.

To turn a regular drone into a Follow Me Drone for elegant video recordings and have them automatically follow their owner, one only has to connect their video output to a human-recognition algorithm. In the step-by-step instructions, we show how easy it is.

AI for the ESP32: Neural networks can also take on demanding tasks on microcontrollers with comparatively little RAM and a low CPU clock. In a three-part series of articles, we will show you step-by-step how this works. In the current issue of Make we start with part 1.

With the Chatbot technology AIML you can enter into a dialogue with your own project via text messages or even communicate via spoken language. We’ll start with a broad overview and then work our way into the details.

You can spend a lot of money on HiFi. In order to stream digital music in the highest quality to the existing system, however, a cheap Raspberry Pi is sufficient. This can be done in no time at all and without any soldering – so there is more time to get to know your music again.

But honestly, our project is far too cheap and too honest for real high-end freaks. But affordable, but still excellent D/A converters and a simple Raspberry Pi deliver uncompressed streaming pleasure that will delight any audio engineer.

There is more on the subject in issue 6/21 of Make.

Issue 6/21 of Make available online and at kiosks. With one of our subscriptions, the magazine was already in the mailbox before the magazine started. You can also conveniently order Make as a print version or PDF from the Heise Shop. If you prefer to read Make digitally, you can in our apps for iOS and Android.
