The office of Clément Beaune, Minister Delegate in charge of Transport, confirms the upcoming publication of this decree on BFMTV. Automation will make it possible to count passengers in vehicles driving illegally on reserved lanes.
AI will fine those who drive illegally on reserved lanes
Even at high speed, artificial intelligence will identify passengers in a vehicle that does not respect the spaces dedicated to carpooling. As the technology is not infallible despite an accuracy rate of 97% during a test in the Doubs, humans will check the electronic reports, as with automatic radars.
Clément Beaune’s office specifies that the test phase “concerns around ten reserved lane projects such as carpooling and public transport”. The trial will last two years.
The CNIL confirms the conformity of the device
The National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (CNIL) validated the terms of the decree. The images captured by artificial intelligence will not blur the driver’s face but those of the passengers. The data collected will be the date, location, number of people, vehicle model and registration. Using this information, a check from a database will allow you to know if the car is authorized to travel on the lane in question. If this is the case, the images are deleted immediately as reported by L’Informed. Otherwise, they will be kept for three years, the duration of criminal proceedings.
The text has not yet been published and no date has been confirmed. When this is the case, prefects will issue local decrees and artificial intelligence will be able to start fining offenders.
