Air France: capacity close to 2019 this winter


(Boursier.com) — Air France continues to reopen its global network. During the 2022-2023 winter season (November 2022 – March 2023), the company will serve 171 destinations, including 86 on long-haul and 85 on short and medium-haul. The company’s entire fleet will be in operation and the level of capacity across the entire network will be close to that of winter 2019.

The national carrier is maintaining its proactive capacity policy in the most resilient geographic areas, including North America and Africa. In North America, and for the second consecutive winter, Air France will operate a direct service from October 22 between Pointe-à-Pitre (Guadeloupe) and Montreal (Canada) with two flights per week operated by Airbus A320.

As the leading airline on the Paris-New York route, Air France will inaugurate a direct daily service on December 12 between its hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and New York-Newark Liberty Airport (EWR), the second international airport serving New York and its region. This daily flight operated by Boeing 777-200 ER marks Air France’s return to Newark, the company’s historic destination served directly until 2012. It will be added to the “Shuttle” type product offered between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and New York-John F. Kennedy (JFK) with 6 daily flights operated by Air France and 2 by its partner in the Skyteam alliance Delta Air Lines. Finally, the Paris-Charles de Gaulle – Dallas summer link will be extended for the winter season with 3 flights per week operated by 777-200 ER.

In Africa, Air France will resume from October 30 its flights between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Cape Town (South Africa), suspended since the start of the Covid crisis. 3 flights per week will be provided by Boeing 787-9. In addition to Cape Town, Air France serves Johannesburg in South Africa, with 7 flights per week.

In addition, as part of the gradual reopening of Japan’s borders, Air France relaunched its flights last September between Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Tokyo-Haneda (Japan), with 5 weekly flights operated by Boeing 787-9. Air France will thus connect Paris to the two Tokyo airports this winter, with Tokyo-Narita airport being served up to 5 times a week from Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

On the short/medium haul network, winter 2022-2023 will be marked by the development of Air France’s offer to snow-covered destinations and North Africa. From October 30, Air France will launch a new service between Paris-Orly and Casablanca, with a daily flight operated by Airbus A320. On the same date, the Nice-London Heathrow (United Kingdom) link, hitherto provided only in peak summer, will become annual, with a daily flight provided by Airbus A320.

Inaugurated in 2021, the Paris-Charles de Gaulle – Rovaniemi (Finland) seasonal service will resume this year from November 27 with up to 1 daily flight operated by Airbus A320 during the end-of-year holidays. On December 10, four new destinations will also join the Air France network: Kittilä (Finland) and Tromsø (Norway), both served once a week, respectively by A320 and Airbus A319. Innsbruck and Salzburg (Austria), with respectively 2 and 1 flight per week operated by Embraer 190 from December 10, 2022.

Finally, the summer lines Paris-Orly – Tunis (Tunisia), Marseille – Algiers (Algeria), Toulouse – Algiers (Algeria) and Toulouse – Oran (Algeria) will be extended for the winter season.
