(CercleFinance.com) – Air Liquide announced on Thursday that it was going to deploy a “tailor-made” solution to the French bottle manufacturer Verallia to enable it to reduce its CO2 emissions and energy consumption.
The industrial gas specialist will support the conversion of the Pescia plant (Italy) from traditional combustion to optimized oxycombustion during the construction of a new furnace on the site.
As part of this long-term contract, Air Liquide plans to build and operate a next-generation oxygen production unit for Verallia that will be 10% more energy efficient.
This solution must combine oxygen supply technology and the reuse of heat from the glass production process.
The oxygen produced by this unit will replace the air usually injected into the furnace, which will melt the glass by oxycombustion and improve the efficiency of the process.
Air Liquide also plans to provide its proprietary ‘HeatOx’ technology for recovering the heat emitted by the glass furnace to further reduce energy consumption related to glass production.
The project should contribute significantly to the 18% reduction in CO2 emissions (scope 1 and 2) targeted by Verallia for its glass furnace in Pescia.
The manufacturer of glass bottles for beverages and food has set itself the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
It should also be noted that Air Liquide announced last night the launch of a buyback offer relating to two series of bonds denominated in US dollars.
The transaction concerns bonds bearing interest at the rate of 2.50% maturing in 2026, for a maximum amount of 350 million dollars, as well as bonds bearing interest at the rate of 3.50% maturing in 2046, for a maximum amount of 100 million.
