(CercleFinance.com) – Air Liquide announces the construction of an industrial-scale pilot ammonia cracking unit in the port of Antwerp, Belgium, which will contribute to the development of hydrogen as a key the energy transition.

The French supplier of industrial gases explains that hydrogen transformed into ammonia, thanks to this innovative cracking technology with a low carbon footprint, can be easily transported over long distances.

This pilot unit should be operational in 2024. The Flemish government has confirmed financial support for the project. Air Liquide has committed to investing globally around eight billion euros in low-carbon hydrogen by 2035.
