(AOF) – Ryanair on June 5 called on the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to take urgent measures to protect passengers during a new strike by French air traffic controllers scheduled for tomorrow Thursday and which forced the company to cancel nearly 100 flights to or from Paris Beauvais airport on short notice. This would include “protecting French overflights by law during air traffic controller strikes as in Greece, Italy and Spain”.
According to Ryanair, it would also be a matter of “allowing other European air traffic controllers to manage flights over France while French air traffic controllers are on strike” and “of forcing French air traffic controllers’ unions to engage in arbitration binding before initiating strikes.
“Since 2023, there have been 84 days of strikes by French air traffic controllers, forcing airlines to cancel thousands of European overflights from Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland and the United Kingdom , while France in particular uses minimum service laws to protect French flights,” says the low-cost airline, judging that “this is unfair.”
