The French manufacturer Babyliss is trying to follow the trend in the hair dryer market with the Air Wand. A versatile device, it is designed to dry and style hair, like the Dyson Airwrap (LINK) and Shark FlexStyle (LINK). Like the latter two, the Air Wand takes the form of a tube at the end of which there is an air outlet for drying the hair. Babyliss announces a flow reaching 123 km/h.

The hair dryer’s anti-frizz technology is materialized a few centimeters below this air outlet. It helps to better discipline the strands and hair.

The Air Wand can therefore be used without a tip to dry hair or be fitted with an accessory to facilitate styling. There are two of these accessories. The straightening tip, first of all, is made up of ceramic plates decorated with soft pins to detangle the hair and facilitate styling from the roots. The second tip adopts the codes of a round brush and would offer results similar to blow-drying thanks to its pins and soft bristles.

Whether on dry or damp hair, Babyliss claims that the Air Wand poses no risk to hair health. It also caps at 120°C, again depending on the brand, to limit thermal damage.

Babyliss would be able to straighten – or rather relax – hair, even textured hair.

To manage the power and heat of the airflow, three controls are installed on the bottom of the handle. The first is none other than an on/off button. The other two allow you to regulate drying among three air flow speeds and four heating levels. A final mode can be activated by holding the temperature button: the ultra-care mode, which consists of alternating hot air and cold air to avoid damaging the hair and fixing the hairstyle.

Finally, with only 380 g on the scale, Babyliss wants to offer a very light and particularly handy device, something rare in the small world of hair dryers.

For the most curious, the Babyliss Air Wand is already available at a price of €130, and it should not take long to arrive in our laboratory…
