PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Airbus announced on Tuesday that it has entered into a partnership with CFM International, a joint venture between the American General Electric and the French Safran, in order to set up a demonstration program of “zero emissions” aircraft powered by to hydrogen.

This program foresees the realization by 2030 of ground and flight tests of a direct combustion engine fueled by hydrogen, with a view to the commercial entry into service of a zero-emission aircraft on the horizon. 2035, Airbus said in a statement.

The project will draw on the expertise of the two groups, in particular CFM International’s “rise” program launched last June, and on the Airbus A380 demonstration platform.

The partners did not provide an estimate of the cost of this program.
