Airbus exceeds its targets and launches a new subsidiary

Airbus is deploying. The European aeronautical company has exceeded its target of 600 aircraft deliveries in 2021, according to a count that must still be consolidated, we learned, Monday, January 3, from sources in the sector. The deliveries of devices continued until December 31 inclusive, according to data from the specialist websites Hamburg Finkenwerder News and Flightradar24. Last-minute deliveries particularly concerned long-haul A350 aircraft, the demand for which remains limited due to the restrictions imposed on intercontinental travel by the coronavirus pandemic.

About ten of these devices were delivered in December, although around half of them have not yet entered service, according to Flightradar24. Airbus’ delivery rate traditionally increases at the end of the year, but the company has not escaped the difficulties of supply chains in recent months, which have particularly affected the production of medium-haul aircraft.

The European manufacturer had revised its delivery target upwards in July, from 566 to 600, after reporting better than expected half-year results. Bloomberg reported on December 22 that it was on the verge of meeting that goal.

A subsidiary which employs 13,000 people

The aeronautical group Airbus also announced on Monday the creation of Airbus Atlantic, a new subsidiary bringing together several manufacturing activities in France and around the world. Number two worldwide in aerostructures, this subsidiary brings together the group’s activities in Nantes and Montoir-de-Bretagne, as well as all of Stelia Aerospace’s worldwide sites. It employs 13,000 people and represents a business volume of around 3.5 billion euros, the group said in a press release.

“Airbus Atlantic will be an essential link in the group’s value chain and will play a key role vis-à-vis the entire aerostructures supply chain with more than 500 direct suppliers (aeronautical products) and more than 2,000 indirect suppliers (general purchasing) “, added Airbus.
