(CercleFinance.com) – On the occasion of the Farnborough air show, Airbus announces the launch of a connectivity services activity via the creation of a dedicated HAPS (High Altitude Platform Station) services subsidiary based on Zephyr, its main HAPS technology platform.

This new subsidiary of Airbus Defense and Space will serve a substantial market, providing low latency connectivity services from the stratosphere for telecommunications and Earth observation applications.

Samer Halawi (previously Intelsat’s executive vice president and chief commercial officer) has been named chief executive of the new venture, while Taz Esmail (recently chief financial officer at Meta Aerospace) becomes its chief financial officer.
