Airbus: signs an agreement with Renault in electrification

(CercleFinance.com) – Airbus and Renault have signed a research and development agreement to strengthen cross-functionalities and synergies and meet the electrification needs of both companies.

This partnership will enable Airbus to advance technologies associated with future hybrid-electric aircraft.

Airbus and Renault Group engineering teams will join forces to develop technologies related to energy storage.

The collaboration will focus in particular on the technological bricks linked to the optimization of energy management and the improvement of battery weight.

It will study the best options for doubling the energy density of batteries by 2030, moving from current chemical cells (advanced lithium-ion) to all-solid-state designs.

The joint work will also cover the full life cycle of future batteries, from production to recyclability.

“This cross-industry partnership with Renault Group will help us bring out the next generation of batteries as part of Airbus’ electrification roadmap,” explains Sabine Klauke, Director of Engineering, Airbus.
