PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–The aeronautics group Airbus announced Thursday that Spain has ordered 20 copies of the Eurofighter fighter plane for an amount of 2.043 billion euros.
These 20 aircraft will replace a fleet of F-18s used by the Spanish Air Force in the Canary Islands.
This contract will bring Spain’s number of Eurofighters to 90, with first delivery expected in 2026.
“The acquisition, valued at 2.043 billion euros, was approved by the Spanish Council of Ministers on December 14, 2021 and includes the aircraft, engines, a simulator and the necessary support services,” Airbus said in a statement. .
The Eurofighter is a combat aircraft built by the Eurofighter Typhoon consortium which brings together Airbus Defense and Space, the space and military branch of Airbus, the British BAE Systems and the Italian Leonardo.
