AirPods have become a real cash machine for Apple since their appearance in 2016. They dominate the wireless/true-wireless earphone market with a market share of nearly 32% in 2022, according to Canalys. And within the Californian firm, the Home and Accessories division, which includes AirPods, Apple Watch and Beats headphones, generates some $40 billion per year. It is one of the most dynamic, and this is why Apple intends to improve the readability of its range in 2024, with a complete overhaul of devices dedicated to the brand’s ecosystem.
According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, the “regular” third-generation AirPods did not sell particularly well, with consumers often opting for the older, cheaper second-generation ones, which Apple continued to sell. This is why the Cupertino company now intends to gradually phase out the 2nd and 3rd generation AirPods by launching the new range in fall 2024.
Two versions of AirPods 4
Apple plans to launch two versions of its AirPods 4.Both models will feature a new design that will look like a mix of the third generation AirPods and the Pro model“, explains Mark Gurman. The design of the headphones will be retouched as well as the housings and the audio quality of the products. The difference between the two versions will be in the active noise reduction which will be present only on the more high-end version. This latest model will be entitled to a renewed charging case, including speakers for location alerts, like the current AirPods. And of course they will be entitled to the USB-C port for charging.
Aiprods Max, AirPods Pro
A new version of AirPods Max will also arrive at the end of 2024, according to a source cited by Mark Gurman. In addition to the integration of the USB-C port, they will offer new colors but will not be entitled to a major technical update. The minimum service is therefore to be expected for next year.
The AirPods Pro, for their part, would be planned for 2025, with a new design and a new chip. Apple also intends to integrate hearing-related health functions into this range. This is the main information regarding these product ranges. Others will undoubtedly be added before they are made official.
