People are standing and waiting everywhere. Nothing works these days at one of the newest airports in Europe. “I have never experienced such chaos at any airport,” writes Blick reader Michael I *, who was in the German capital last week.
Since last weekend, everything has been going haywire at Berlin-Brandenburg Airport. Thousands of travelers stood with their legs in their stomachs. And yet only one of three terminals is open. Allegedly for cost reasons.
Lack of staff due to sick leave
The reason? You had certain “process difficulties” at the beginning of the vacation, like a spokesman for the “Berliner Morgenpost” says. In addition, the implementation of the corona rules make the processes more complicated.
A tweet from Saturday shows how “500 meter long queues wound their way through the hall several times”. According to a Twitter user, there was no staff to instruct or organize. The airport defends itself because of sickness reports.
“I had to queue for an hour just to show the Covid certificate,” reports reader Michael I. Lufthansa, which also includes Swiss, recommends that its guests arrive at the airport four hours before departure, like the “Mirrors” writes.
Swiss has increased
Swiss flies up to five times a day between Zurich and Berlin. The airline writes that the check-in capacities were increased and additional staff were deployed at the beginning of the holiday. It is very regrettable that there are still delays at the airport. Swiss therefore recommends checking in online and “planning enough time” when traveling with luggage.
For Blick reader Michael I, the chaos was not over after the security check. “The plane was delayed because at first there was no parking space, then the stairs were missing and in the end there was only one bus available for 30 people each.” After this ordeal he would have needed another vacation right away.
