Family drama in Soissons, in the Aisne. A 10-year-old child was found dead on Sunday at her home. His mother, taken to hospital after a suicide attempt, is suspected of homicide.
The mother, aged “in her forties” herself called the emergency services on Sunday morning, “saying that she wanted to commit suicide because she had a priori killed her child”, explained to AFP the public prosecutor of Soissons, Julien Morino-Ros.
A death that would go back several days
Called at 8:35 a.m., the firefighters discovered the child in her room and quickly “understood that there was nothing more to be done” to revive her. “It was the Smur doctor who declared the death,” a spokeswoman for the Aisne fire department told AFP.
The death of the little girl, aged around “10 or 11 years old”, “would go back several days, but we do not know exactly when at this stage”, continued the prosecutor. “An autopsy and blood tests” should make it possible to determine the causes of death.
The hospitalized mother
The mother “is still in the hospital and has not yet been able to be heard”. Her vital prognosis is not engaged but “her psychiatric state remains to be assessed”, indicated Julien Morino-Ros, specifying that she had at this stage “not given any explanation as to why” of her gesture.
The judicial police have been seized. At this stage, the neighborhood survey “did not bring any particular elements”, he added. Justice does not have either “elements on the paternity of the child, but there was no father present at the home”.
