AK Salzburg occupied – price explosion for wheat flour, butter and cola

Wheat flour was an incredible 77 percent more expensive this year – but there are other wild price drivers in Salzburg. The Salzburg Chamber of Labor looked at the small shopping basket in detail and came to a less than edifying conclusion.

What one suspected at the supermarket checkout is now proven by the Salzburg Chamber of Labor: In a survey focusing on the small shopping basket for everyday goods, an increase of 20.68 percent was registered compared to the beginning of the year. This shopping cart includes 54 products that are among the cheapest in their category. There was even a real price explosion for individual goods: Wheat flour became 77 percent more expensive, as did butter (+60%), sugar (+54%), rice (+49%), toilet paper (+45%) and cola (+45 %) top the unflattering ranking. After all, beer was four percent cheaper, the same applies to apples (-12%) and Frankfurters (-18%). Because the burden on consumers has increased massively, AK President Peter Eder calls for “the temporary suspension of VAT Groceries”.
