AK survey – Decrease in heating costs: relief for consumers

The AK Salzburg is recording a positive trend: the prices for oil, natural gas and pellets have fallen. However, AK President Peter Eder emphasizes that despite this improvement, costs are still above pre-crisis levels and are difficult for many to manage.

Heating oil has recorded a decline of around 11 percent since October 2023. The reductions only occurred in the last 3 months. AK expert Stefan Göweil recommends obtaining various offers in order to maximize possible savings. Prices have also fallen in the natural gas sector due to increasing competition. Göweil encourages price comparisons and points out possible savings by switching providers. For owners of pellet heating systems, prices have fallen by an average of 13.32 percent. Göweil emphasizes the importance of the right time to buy. There were also developments on the electricity market: the Salzburg state energy supplier lowered prices. Nevertheless, Göweil warns of hidden costs when switching discounts. AK President Peter Eder is calling for measures from politicians to achieve sustainably lower prices. A socially graded heat price brake and effective steps for more affordable electricity prices are urgently needed to help consumers.
