Suffering from an incurable disease, Alain Cocq, 57, decided to stop all treatment and eat. But after four days of suffering, he was placed in palliative care.

Alain Cocq, in "terminal phase for 34 years", has "was hospitalized Monday evening after an intervention of the Samu", said Sophie Medjeberg, vice-president of the Handi-Mais-Pas-Que association, Tuesday, can we read on the site 20Minutes and confirming information from RTL radio.

The Dijon resident, after four painful days, was therefore taken to a hospital and placed in palliative care.

"He clearly rejected the refusal of treatment. He was in too much pain, it was too hard. He still wishes to leave but in a process without suffering. It was too difficult", she added.

Also contacted by RMC, the patient's representative and friend, explained over the phone the state in which Alain Cocq is: "He repeated to me three times that he wanted to leave: 'I'm tired Sophie, I can't take it anymore, I want to leave'."

Decided to die at home, Alain Cocq, who is suffering from a rare genetic disease which blocks his arteries and which is incurable, had announced to stop all his treatments as well as his diet. This announcement follows the refusal of Emmanuel Macron to an injection of barbiturates to shorten his suffering.

The opinion of the President of the Republic was based on the Claeys-Léonetti law on the end of life, adopted in 2016, which only authorizes deep sedation for people whose vital prognosis is "in the short term". . A decisive element that Alain Cocq cannot prove.

Regarding his hospitalization, Sophie Madjeberg explains to RMC that she fears "that they will put him back on his feet and that he will return to this body which makes him suffer."

"I understand his willingness to leave without giving in to a deep sleep while his body is in pain, and I also understand that at a certain point he cannot take it any longer. In either case, he will have kept his dignity until at the end", reacted to Agence France-Presse (and relayed by Le Monde) François Lambert, the nephew of Vincent Lambert (a young quadriplegic man who died with the help of his mother in 2019, after years of legal combat).
