Alan Merrill: Arrows singer died at the age of 69

US musician Alan Merrill died on Sunday of age 69 from Covid-19 lung disease. This confirmed the daughter of the Arrows singer, Laura Merrill, on Facebook. "The corona virus took my father this morning," she wrote.

His work went down in history

Merrill became known as the singer of the British pop band Arrows. In 1975 he composed the song "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" together with bandmate Jake Hooker, which was only to become an eternal rock anthem only years later. Joan Jett & the Blackhearts took this on in 1981 and made it a hit. Joan Jett (61) publicly mourns Merrill.

The American rock singer wrote on Twitter On a picture of the late artist: "I just heard about the terrible news that Alan Merrill has died. My thoughts and my love go to his family, his friends and the entire music community." She wishes Merrill "a safe journey to the other side".
