  • Alan Wake 2 was originally intended to use a first-person perspective.
  • Remedy ultimately decided against it.
  • The reason for this is that the focus is primarily on the characters.

Alan Wake 2, the upcoming horror game from Remedy Entertainment, has been in development for over 10 years now. After the development studio previously announced the new release date, creative director Sam Lake provides further insights into the development of the title.

In an interview with Kinda Funny Games, he reveals, among other things, that the implementation of a first-person perspective was considered for a while during the development of the game.

First-person perspective

The development team apparently came up with this idea again through Resident Evil 7, which previously served as inspiration for the developers. Lake explains in the interview that the first-person perspective is well suited for horror games in many aspects because it allows for close proximity to enemies and monsters.

Nevertheless, Remedy made the decision not to develop a first-person perspective because the focus of the game was primarily on the characters and their stories. It is therefore more important that players can recognize the characters and their emotions on the screen.

If you want to find out more about Alan Wake 2, there is an 11-minute gameplay video and a behind the scenes video. As usual, you can find information about other upcoming games in our gaming release list.
