Alan Wake 2 will bring your PC to its knees and that’s normal


The recommended PC requirements for Alan Wake 2 are known and they will hurt your wallet. But given what the game will offer graphically, we are not surprised.

It’s one of the most anticipated games of the year: Alan Wake 2 is expected on October 27 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series and should push the limits of real-time graphical fidelity. The game from Remedy, creators of Control (already a technological slap in the face), will integrate the latest photorealistic rendering techniques.

And this is evident with the different reconfigurations recommended for PC players which indicate a strong trend for next generation titles.

Alan Wake 2, a (too?) muscular configuration requested on PC

We suspected it from the first trailers: Alan Wake 2 will be very demanding on your PC. Like Cyberpunk 2077the horror thriller should be a technological showcase for Nvidia and it shows: The game will integrate the effects of path tracingeven more demanding than the ray tracingas well as Ray Reconstruction of DLSS 3.5 from Nvidia, to improve rendering.

And that comes at a cost: if you want to play at 1080p at Medium graphics settings at 60 FPS, the game will require a GeForce RTX 3070 or AMD Radeon 6700 XT graphics card, surprisingly recent hardware for this level of rendering. For the highest settings of ray tracingRemedy no longer recommends AMD cards, in favor of the very recent GeForce RTX 4070 and RTX 4080 from Nvidia.

Whether it is the Ultra or Minimum configuration, the studio advises players to activate the options in all cases.upscaling from AMD (FSR) or Nvidia (DLSS) in order to achieve a stable level of performance. This is a trend that will be observed more and more in the most graphically demanding games, as was the case for Immortals of Aveumfirst game developed under Unreal Engine 5.

If Alan Wake 2 is also demanding for your PC, this is quite simply because the game was designed as an experience running at 30 frames seconds, and this, on consoles. Thomas Puha, director of communications at Remedy, confirmed this last month, revealing that the studio had prioritized visuals and atmosphere over raw performance.
