Alarming survey: – Only one in four adults skis every year

Austria’s supposed national sport number one is crumbling. According to a new survey, only 25 percent of the population over the age of 16 put on their skis at least once a year.

According to a new OGM survey, the vast majority no longer skis at all and don’t believe in the future of skiing either. “The warm winter and the images of green terrain with white artificial snow bands certainly curb the joy of skiing. Then there is the price increase,” says OGM boss Wolfgang Bachmayer. Two out of three respondents attribute a lack of snow to climate change. According to the survey, 62 percent attribute the lack of snow to climate change, while 35 percent of those surveyed consider it to be a normal whim of the weather. 59 percent do not believe that ski tourism has a future in Austria, 55 percent believe that the industry should develop other offers for winter tourism.
