Alcoa: renewable energy contract in Spain

(CercleFinance.com) – Alcoa Corporation has announced the signing of a renewable energy contract to support the planned 2024 restart of aluminum production at the San Ciprián smelter in Spain.

The long-term power purchase agreement is with Greenalia, an independent developer and producer of renewable energy.

The agreement is expected to provide up to 183 megawatts for the smelter’s baseload power consumption, which represents about 45% of the energy needed to reach the smelter’s maximum capacity of 228,000 tonnes per year.

“This electricity contract is a very important step for the long-term viability of San Ciprián,” said Álvaro Dorado Baselga, vice president of global energy at Alcoa and president of Alcoa in Spain.
