Aldi: Gaming PCs with RTX 3070 & RTX 3060 Ti and Intel CPU – is it worth buying?

Aldi will sell two gaming PCs in its online shop from March 31st. Both models are equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000 GPU and an Intel CPU. We reveal whether the two PCs are worth their money.

Aldi offers

in the online shop

From March 31st at 7 a.m., we will be offering two gaming PCs, the Engineer X20 and the Engineer P10, both of which were already on sale in January with slightly different equipment (read the article) . For €1,299 you get a combination of a Core i5-11400, an RTX 3060 Ti and 16 GB of RAM, while the more expensive model for €1,999 is equipped with a Core i7-12700K, an RTX 3070 and 32 GB of DDR4 RAM. Due to the falling graphics card prices in recent weeks (read the article), the prices for Aldi PCs are okay, but they are not real bargains. Nonetheless, we reckon you’d better be quick if you want to snag one of the PCs; experience has shown that the last offers were sold out in a very short time.

Medion Erazer Engineer X20 for 1,999 euros: configuration

  • Intel Core i7-12700K (3.60 to 5.00 GHz, 12 cores / 20 threads, 25 MB Intel Smart Cache)

  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070 LHR with 8 GB GDDR6 graphics memory

  • Gigabyte Z690M Aorus Elite AX

  • 1TB PCIe SSD and 1TB HDD

  • 32GB Kingston Fury RGB DDR4 RAM (up to 3200MHz)

  • Cool Master MasterLiquid ML120L

  • 650 watt power supply (manufacturer unknown)

  • In Win 103 with glass window

  • Windows 11 Home

  • 3 year guarantee

Assessment:

With the Engineer X20, Aldi relies almost exclusively on branded components and a powerful CPU-GPU combination, with which you can play all current games smoothly in QHD with the highest graphics settings. A major point of criticism is that the manufacturer does not specify the power supply. We were only able to find out from the Computerbild test that it is a 650-watt version, but the specific model is also kept secret here. The manufacturer and the model designation of the SSD and the HDD are also unknown. That makes it a bit difficult to reconfigure the PC, but with a comparable configuration we get a price of around 1,970 euros for the individual components. At Aldi you can get assembly and a three-year guarantee included for a small additional charge.

Alternative:

Our gaming PC configuration with RTX 3070 for around 1,560 euros

Medion Erazer Core Engineer P10 for 1,299 euros: configuration

  • Intel Core i5-11400 (2.60 to 4.40 GHz, 6 cores / 12 threads, 15 MB Intel Smart Cache)

  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR with 8 GB GDDR video memory

  • Mainboard unknown (probably: OEM mainboard (µATX) with B560 chipset)

  • 1TB PCIe SSD and 2TB HDD

  • 16GB DDR4 RAM (up to 2933MHz)

  • CPU cooler unknown (probably: Cooler Master i70C)

  • Power supply unknown (probably: 650 W power supply from In Win)

  • In Win 301 with glass window

  • Windows 11 Home

  • 3 year guarantee

Assessment:

With the Engineer P10 it is even more difficult to recreate the configuration because the mainboard, the manufacturer of the SSD and HDD, the CPU cooler and the power supply are all unknown. However, we assume that these are the same components as the January offer of the P10 (read the article). That would be a B560 OEM motherboard, a Cooler Master i70C CPU cooler and an In-Win power supply with 650 watts. With our quite comparable configuration, we arrive at an individual component price of 1298 euros, which is almost exactly the retail price of the Core Engineer P10, which comes with a three-year guarantee. All in all, the price is ok here too, but not significantly cheaper than the price of the individual components, as was often the case in the past.

Core Gaming PC System Engineer P10 for 1,299 euros

Alternative:
