Alexander Technique is a movement therapy where people learn to improve their posture and move their bodies in a new way. This “re-education” can alleviate a variety of ailments – especially chronic pain, difficulty in breathing (eg due to bronchial asthma) and stress.

The Alexander Technique was developed by the Australian actor Frederik M. Alexander. He discovered that certain postures or movements can cause chronic discomfort – in his case, it was a recurring loss of voice. From this he concluded that especially the posture for a healthy and symptom-free life is of crucial importance.

How is the Alexander technique used?

The Alexander Technique is based on the idea that a particular body posture influences the functions of the entire organism and that learning about harmful movement patterns can relieve permanent discomfort or restrictions.

The Alexander Technique is taught by specially trained Alexander Technique instructors, who guide the movements to be learned with light touches. The focus of the exercises is to carry out everyday movements such as running, sitting or getting up very light and fluid. After about 30 practice sessions, the students are ready to apply the Alexander Technique in their everyday life.
