Alexandra Freifrau von Berlichingen died at the age of 82. The death of the widow of former Federal President Roman Herzog (1934-2017) confirmed, among others, the State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg on the official website. In it, the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Thomas Strobl (62, CDU) from Berlichingen pays tribute. The news fills him “with great sadness”: “It has shaped the Castle Festival in Jagsthausen for decades with its dignity, elegance and grandeur.” Von Berlichingen did not seek the limelight, but rather developed the festival further and placed it in a new light.

The Roman-Herzog widow will be fondly remembered as a strong and impressive personality. Thoughts are with the von Berlichingen family. Von Berlichingen, who came from the Vultejus noble family, was married to the former head of state of Germany in her second marriage. Roman Herzog died in 2017. She was previously married to Bundeswehr Colonel Götz Wolf von Berlichingen, who died in 1994. Two children came from this marriage.

After the death of her first husband, she took over the presidency of the Jagsthausen Castle Festival, where the Johann Wolfgang von Goethe play “Götz von Berlichingen” is performed every year on an open-air stage. In 2020 she retired from management.
