In a modest and sincere story *, the actor of Tomorrow belongs to us, Monday to Friday at 7:10 p.m. on TF1, recounts, like a memory smuggler, his construction within a legendary family.
Télé Star: How did the idea for this book come about?
Alexander Brewer: My editor asked me to and I let myself do it. The meeting with Mathieu Souquiere, with whom I co-wrote it, convinced me. I looked back on my past, and I realized that I had been very lucky to have met all these people.
Who are all these “godfathers” who covered you with their benevolence?
George Wilson was founding for me, just like Jean-Claude Brialy. But I also spent long evenings with Jacques Villeret Where Claude Rich, as well as with the family Belmondo who welcomed me at the Théâtre des Variétés off the cuff.
Tell us about this experience without a net…
I was called to take over a role the same evening in happy passovers! I was impressed to play with Arditi but I enjoy taking on these kinds of challenges. Few years later, Bernard Murat contacted me to play in My dad was right beside Claudius, my father.
Has this particular situation changed your relationship?
Of course, it wasn’t just happiness because I discovered my father at work. The reality is sometimes different from what we want to imagine. This piece has done us a lot of good. I positioned myself as his son openly, in the eyes of all. The profit, we touched it during the tour where we shared more intimate moments. I can say that there, we hit the jackpot!
What strategies have you developed to live up to the lineage, an obsession you share with your father?
We are faced with the question of legitimacy, since the one who precedes you has a busy career. How to position yourself in front of him and also face the gaze of others? I told myself that the simplest method was work.
In view of this heritage, what father are you with your two children, whom you had very young?
I was a very present, very involved father. As much as I may have struggled to find my place as a son, as much as a dad, it was obvious.
You are 9 years old when your father takes you on the set of The party. Can you come back to your meeting with Sophie Marceau, who was 14?
I was walking around the sets and on the catwalks, and there, I see the young Sophia which is changing. I was like all the children of France, in love with her, and I see her. I didn’t say anything but I looked.
Today how do you live the adventure Tomorrow belongs to us?
It’s nice to play a recurring hero and adapt to what the character will become. I’m like the public, I don’t know what sauce I’m going to be eaten, I’m just a month and a half ahead!
Does that leave room for anything else?
Everything is a question of organization. I’m leaving this summer to shoot A murder in Pont-Aven with Stephane Freiss, and I prepare a play. I am very proud of this project which is highly symbolic for me.
