Alexandre Debanne: the host reveals how much he earned when he hosted Video Gag

From 1990 to 1996, Alexandre Debanne co-hosted Vidéo Gag with Bernard Montiel. In Chez Jordan, he lifted the veil on the salary he was receiving at the time and which for him is a “scam”.

For years, he was the sidekick of Bernard Montiel. In September 1990, Alexandre Debanne was chosen by TF1 to accompany the host to the presentation of Vidéo Gag. Their duo would have lasted six years before he was replaced by Alexandre Delpérier. On the set of At Jordan’sbroadcast on Télé-Loisirs, he explained that he had a memory “mixed” from the cult show. The reason ? He had not left M6 to host this kind of show on TF1. “When you come to do The Treasure Hunt, hanging from the helicopter at the other end of the world and you find yourself disguised as Bozo the clown next to the fashion plate that Bernard Montiel has always been, it is a cold split”, confided Alexandre Debanne. And to add, grateful: “I owe a lot to this show which was very popular”.

“I had come to do this show which suited me like a glove because at the time I was only doing extreme sports, traveling. It was really for me. I believed in it wholeheartedly. And I found myself doing Video Gag, which was a show that was a hit. So there was the great side, because it was popular, family-friendly, we made the whole of France laugh. And there was the disappointment side, because I was doing TV that I didn’t like”, still remembered Alexandre Debanne. who lived it “very, very badly”. To animate Video Gag, he nevertheless received a small jackpot of 100,000 francs per month, that is more than 20,000 euros. “A scam” for him. Years after leaving Video Gag, Alexandre Debanne has a mixed relationship with Bernard Montiel. The columnist of Do not touch My TV had also shot him down.

Bernard Montiel: Alexandre Debanne “missed the boat”

“He just did the easy stuff and, in my opinion, given the talent he had – he’s got real talent – I think he let himself float, [qu’il s’est reposé] on its laurels. If he had worked a little more to really go towards who he is, with his true personality, he would have been a hit. He missed the mark for me, compared to the talent he has”estimated Bernard Montiel a few months ago. As for Alexandre Debanne, he recently tackled M6, who did not invite him to his birthday party. “It is a sign consistent with the time in which we live where we move without any roots, he got angry on the set of Chez Jordan. And it’s a shame because suddenly it’s difficult to have a course and to have a future when you don’t know where you come from. In any case when we forget it.”
