Jean-Philippe Imparato, CEO of Alfa Romeo, confirms that there will indeed be an electric roadster of the Dueto Spider type. Be patient though, it won’t be before 2026!

In an interview with our British colleagues fromAuto-Expressthe CEO of Alfa Romeo has confirmed that a new electric roadster is part of the manufacturer’s plans to win back Biscione.

Alfa Romeo begins its recovery under the aegis of its new owner Stellantis with the launch of the Tonale SUV, a compact SUV powered by a 48 V hybrid engine developing 130 or 160 hp. If the line is attractive, this SUV is far from triggering the passion of enthusiasts. To wait for the latter, Jean-Philippe Imparato revealed that the head of design of the company, Alejandro Masonero-Romanos, had started working on the design of the future electric roadster. While specifying that its marketing cannot be considered before larger volume models have been successfully launched.

“La Tonale is the first of a new linedid he declare. There will be more surprises in 2023 and 2024. We can talk about the roadster again in 2025-2026, but until then we set ourselves the objective of being sustainable, of existing in three regions of the world and of being known for our performance and quality.”

It is likely that the future Spider roadster will be based on Stellantis’ new STLA platform, which can accommodate vehicles with a length of approximately 4.3 m, a battery with a capacity of between 87 and 104 kWh, and motors electric with a power of 168 to 241 hp. A version with an electric motor on each axle is being considered.
