Alfa Romeo’s second electric car will combine long range, ultra-fast charging and insane power

It’s official, the next generation of the Alfa Romeo Giulia will be 100% electric. And the least we can say is that it will display incredible performance, with a version developing no less than 1,000 horsepower. It will also benefit from a very fast charge and a long battery life.

Alfa Rome Tonale Concept

Like all manufacturers present in Europe, with a few exceptions, Alfa Romeo will have to go all-electric while thermal cars will be banned in 2035. However, this should not be a concern for the Italian brand, which has planned to no longer market internal combustion vehicles from 2027. The manufacturer’s first electric model is then planned for next year, then taking the form of an SUV derived from the Jeep Avenger, which we tested in preview.

Incredible performance

Later, another model will expand the range. And this one is not totally unknown, since it will actually be a new generation of the Alfa Romeo Giulia, launched on the market in 2015. Until then, the brand had not yet officially press release on this future arrival in the range, some technical characteristics of which had however been disclosed by an investor.

But a few months later, the tongues are finally starting to loosen up. Thus, the boss of the brand, Jean-Philippe Imparato has finally confirmed officially the arrival of this new variant in the range. The journalists of the British site Coach were also able to obtain unpublished information on the electric sedan which should arrive in 2025.

The range would start with a strong version of around 350 horsepower, while a variant called Veloce should display 800 horsepower. An already very high power, but which is still nothing compared to the 1,000 horsepower planned for the most radical version, which will replace the current Quadrifogio. As a reminder, the generation currently on sale features a 510-hp twin-turbo gasoline V6.

This high-performance variant will adopt four-wheel drive architecture, while the version marketed today is a propulsion. It could carry no less than three engines, either on the front axle and two at the rear like the Maserati Granturismo Folgore presented a few months earlier.

Up to 800 kilometers of range?

Based on the STLA platform developed by the Stellantis group, this new Alfa Romeo Giulia will be equipped with an 800-volt architecture like the Kia EV6 and other Porsche Taycans which will then allow it to be recharged in 18 minutes like the Korean electric crossover. If the brand has not confirmed the battery size, it may be this is around 100 kWh as in the Peugeot Inception concept.

Thus, the electric sedan, which will compete with the Tesla Model 3 should display a range of around 700 kilometers according to the brand’s owner. This is less than the 800 km that were planned at the start. However, it is not excluded that smaller batteries are also offered, while it is known thatit is not necessarily useful to travel huge distances in a single charge, contrary to what many people think.

If no image has yet been unveiled of this new version, Jean-Philippe Imparato underlined that this one will have a less conventional silhouette than the current generation. But for the time being, it is impossible to know more about this, even if the leader affirms that the first proposals from the designers are ” very cool“. It also remains to know the price of this new generation:current starts from 46,600 euros.

Let’s hope that the increase will not be too significant, while electric cars generally cost more than equivalent thermal models. If the price is too high, the sedan might not be eligible for the green bonus. Later, another SUV should see the light of day, as well as a replacement for the Stelvio. A sports rival to the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S should also arrive in 2027.
