“Alfi” barked for help – trapped in a rock face: fire brigade saves a hunting dog

The meeting fire brigade in Carinthia had to move out on Thursday afternoon for an animal rescue operation. An escaped Munsterlander got lost in a steep rock face of the Pöllinger Bach and had to be roped down by the fire brigade.

The young Münsterländer male “Alfi vom Holunderplatzl” had disappeared without a trace from Pölling at meetings since Wednesday evening. “I then went looking with my second dog and ‘Ranger’, my Bernese mountain dog, led me to the Pöllinger Bach, where I heard ‘Alfi’ barking,” reports owner and hunter Tobias Knappitsch. “Alfi” was stuck helplessly in the rocks of the Pöllinger Bach. “I couldn’t go to him, so I asked the fire department for help,” said Knappitsch. With a quad to the crash site Daniel Gross, Klaudija Glanznig and Margret Bacher from the Treffen Volunteer Fire Brigade rushed to help the young hunter. The fellow hunters Philip Marginter and Franz Bacher were also there immediately. “Philip then took Daniel Gross and his equipment to the stream with his quad.” Deputy commander Daniel Gross was then able to abseil down to “Alfi” and then rescue him from the rock safely. Great joy for master and dog licked it off and the rescue harness was easy to put on,” the young hunter said happily. The young Munsterlander was exhausted but unhurt. Everyone involved was very happy that the four-legged friend got out of his dangerous situation safely.
