Alice: Asylum, the sequel to Alice: Return to Madness is canceled

Alice: Madness Returns is an action and adventure game released in 2011 on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360, following American McGee’s Alice from 2000 and obviously based on the stories of Lewis Carroll, with a darker tone. A game much appreciated by players who have had the chance to get their hands on itbut there are not many of them, and the editor EA Games never considered a sequel.

However, its designer American McGee announced in 2017 Alice: Asylum, a project aimed at developing this sequel with a pitch and a hypothetical crowdfunding campaign that could have seduced Electronic Arts, license holder. McGee had then produced a “Design Bible” of more than 400 pages, available for free and explaining his vision for a third opus with Alice. He had entered into a future partnership with the developer Virtuos Games then contacted the editor with a very complete production plan. The designer announced on Patreon that the studio has finally delivered its verdict: EA Games does not want to finance the Alice: Asylum project and also refuses to sell the rights to the franchise to American McGee at this time. Clearly, it’s screwed for the fans.

The designer concludes by explaining that he has reached a point of no return with Alice following this failure. Bored, American McGee says he now wants to walk away from the project, and even if someone manages one day to convince Electronic Arts to make Alice: Asylum, he will not participate in it, now preferring to focus on his family and other activities, away from the development of video games. If you ever haven’t Alice: Madness Returnsit is available at €28.95 on eBay.
