all about microneedling

A technique capable of improving the quality of the skin, rejuvenating it and reducing the appearance of scars and wrinkles? We tell you all about microneedling, this aesthetic medicine technique that is becoming increasingly popular.

Beauty begins with beautiful skin. Much like a backdrop, the base is of utmost importance to the end result. A fine and regular skin texture, a luminous complexion, no signs of aging or scars, this is the image we have of perfect skin (if such skin exists). And that’s not always what the mirror sends us back, unfortunately. Rather than depressing or invoking the aesthetic gods to find your baby’s skin, it is now possible to find beautiful skin without risk and without going through surgery. The technique of microneedling, close to mesotherapy, was born thanks to the evolution of aesthetic medicine. Very popular, it helps restore radiance to the skin, plump it up and improve its texture. No wonder celebrities are crazy about it, from Kim Kardashian to … Brad Pitt. Let’s take stock of everything you need to know about this skincare technique.

What is microneedling?

How can we claim such a quality of skin without going through cosmetic surgery or making a pact a little dangerous? Thanks to microneedling, a rejuvenating technique very popular in the United States that involves stimulating fibroblasts (cells in the dermis that produce collagen and elastin) using microneedles. This aesthetic medicine treatment is gentle and safe. The protocols obviously differ depending on the location and the practitioner, but the (single-use) tools used are generally the same: the Dermaroller – a roller made of very fine needles that are rolled on the skin – or the Dermapen which comes in the form of an electric pen whose tip is a disposable cartridge of tiny needles. Microneedling tools can also be combined with radio frequency devices to trigger skin cell renewal.
Pen (Dermapen) or roller (Dermaroller), the principle is the same: microperforations of the skin by micro-needles generate a healing process, which promotes cell renewal and thus the production of elastin and collagen necessary for a beautiful and firm skin. Mainly used on the face for its many benefits (fade wrinkles, scars, spots, refine pores, etc.), this treatment can be applied all over the body and therefore on areas such as the back of the hands, the neck , stomach or décolleté.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling can be the solution to many skin “ailments”. In case of acne, scars, stretch marks, skin aging (wrinkles, fine lines), dull complexion, this treatment technique offers visible results after a few weeks. Thanks to these hundreds of micro lesions, the skin triggers its own defense and healing system. Result, it is more radiant, smoother and its grain is regular. Rest assured, these mini perforations are not deep and heal very quickly.

It is possible to combine this technique with the application of hyaluronic acid or a poly-revitalizing solution (containing vitamins, minerals and trace elements), for example, because the micro perforations optimize the penetration of the active ingredients that they boost the action of microneedling.

What happens during a session ?

If you are very sensitive to pain, you can apply a local anesthetic in the form of a cream to limit feelings of discomfort one hour before the session. Then, the doctor thoroughly disinfects the face and all areas of the body to be treated, with a sterilizing solution. He / she can optionally apply products such as hyaluronic acid serum or revitalizing solution to the skin before rolling the roller or lightly pressing the pen several times on the area. A session lasts about 30 minutes. Some practitioners can offer a peel before proceeding with the microneedling.

On the way out, the face may be a little red, but that absolutely does not require hiding deep in a cave for a week. The redness fades quickly. However, avoid the swimming pool, sauna, steam room and sun exposure for 3 to 4 days after the treatment. Apply sun care with a strong sun protection factor when you go out. Remember that lesions always pigment under the effect of UV rays.

Does microneedling hurt?

Indeed, it can sting, be unpleasant or even painful. The roller is generally more uncomfortable than the pen. But carried out by a professional, it is a process without great risks. If the skin bleeds a little in places, don’t panic, it’s normal. However, the micro perforations heal quickly and leave no marks or bruises. Allow about a day or two to regain normal skin. Microneedling does not lead to social exclusion unlike other more invasive acts. Despite what you might think when you see the micro-needles, as mentioned above, this aesthetic medicine treatment is rather gentle.

At what age can you microneedling?

There is no set rule. Young problem skin can resolve their (mild) acne using this technique. However, microneedling is known to boost anti-aging care tenfold and is therefore very popular with skin that is starting to mark and lack elasticity.

Who can microneedling?

Almost everyone. This is the big positive point of this simple and safe technique. Both the lightest and darkest skin types can use it. It should be avoided, on the other hand, for pregnant women, people suffering from autoimmune diseases, under anticoagulant or anti-inflammatory treatments, or in cases of severe acne.

Where to microneedling?

This type of beautiful skin treatment remains a medical act, which is why it is strongly recommended to consult a cosmetic doctor or a dermatologist. Make sure that the beauty salon complies with hygiene and safety standards, because the needles still enter the dermis! Price side, count 150 € minimum for one session and at least 3 to 4 sessions to obtain an optimal result.
