Imagine: while the most popular car in Europe is the little Clio, in the United States, a pick-up has been at the top of sales for years: the Ford F-150, a vehicle certainly in constant evolution, but resolutely traditional , aimed at an equally traditional audience. This uninterrupted success seems to be ensured by its electric version, the F-150 Lightning. We were also able to try this electric pick-up a few weeks ago.

A few statistics to capture the impressive performance of this imposing vehicle: it delivers 588 horsepower thanks to its two motors, offering all-wheel drive, as well as a massive torque of 1,050 Nm. As a result, it leaps from a standstill to 100 km/ h in just four seconds, like a supercar.

Landing in Norway

After massively lowering the prices of Mustang Mach-E, announced the Explorer, Ford announces the arrival of the F-150 Lightning in Europe, and exactly in Norway. Why this country? The figure is impressive: in Norway, 79.3% of new cars sold in 2022 were fully electric. This Scandinavian country of 5.5 million inhabitants holds the world record in this area. If we include hybrid vehicles, we exceed 93% of sales. In other words, gasoline-powered cars have practically disappeared from the market.

Ford’s decision to bring the F-150 Lightning to Europe comes as no surprise, given the US group’s recent focus on electric mobility. In the United States, Ford predicts that nearly 40% of its sales will come from electric vehicles by 2030. The manufacturer also plans to expand its range of electric cars in Europe and electrify all of its new models. Europeans by the end of the decade.

Production model with optional equipment driven under test conditions. Professional driver on closed course. Do not attempt. 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning production begins spring 2022.

One can wonder if the Ford F-150 Lightning will one day make its official arrival in France. It’s quite unlikely, but not totally impossible. For those who are interested, importing from Norway will be much easier than from the United States, in particular because of the charging port, which is different between Europe and America.

The Ford F-150 Lightning marketed in Norway

The version marketed in Norway is a special edition (Lariat Launch Edition) which incorporates the “small” 98 kWh battery, allowing it to announce a range of 386 km on the American EPA certification cycle. The European homologation is not yet known, but a figure of around 450 km on the WLTP cycle is to be expected.

This is the engine with a power of 452 hp, for a 0 to 60 MPH (96 km / h) shot in 4.1 seconds. The maximum charging power is 150 kW, which is not excellent, with charging from 15 to 80% in 39 minutes on a compatible terminal. Unlike the American version which climbs to more than 9 kW, the bidirectional integrated charger is satisfied with a power of 2.3 kW to supply tools for example.

The price is likely to cool more than one, since the pick-up is marketed at 1,183,000 Norwegian kroner, or approximately 101,000 euros, as can be seen in the official document of the mark. eThis is about the same rate as in the United States for this finish. Remember that in Norway, VAT (25%) applies to electric cars costing more than 500,000 crowns. In the United States, the basic version starts at 62,000 dollars excluding taxes (about 67,000 euros including tax).
