Record number of participants and premieres at the start of the season

Record number of participants in the premier class, cutting-edge cars, four categories: the German Rally Championship (DRM) starts a season of superlatives on April 22nd and 23rd at the 57th ADAC Rallye Erzgebirge.

With 18 RC2 vehicles, the top class DRM has a new participant record: At the start of the championship, more cutting-edge cars will be at the start than at any other DRM race before. Another premiere: The tradition-steeped Sachsenring, home of the Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, is hosting the ADAC Rallye Erzgebirge for the first time, which was previously based in Stollberg.

The top-class field of drivers is led by the current German champion Marijan Griebel (32/Hahnweiler). The two-time national champion won the 2018 Erzgebirge Rally and is aiming to get one step closer to the title hat-trick at the wheel of the Citroen C3 Rally2 with another victory. His closest rivals are runner-up Julius Tannert (31/Zwickau) in the VW Polo GTI R5, last year’s overall third place Dominik Dinkel (29/Wonsees) in the Ford Fiesta Rally2 and Philip Geipel (35/Plauen) in the Skoda Fabia Rally2 Evo.

Sachsenring hosts the ADAC Rallye Erzgebirge for the first time

In addition to the top league of German rallying, three other classifications are held as part of the German Rally Championship. Spectators can look forward to exciting runs in the DRM2 category at the “Erze”, in which 2WD vehicles with a driven axle compete in the FIA classes RC3 to RC5. The previous ADAC Rallye Masters was integrated into the German Rallye Championship and renamed DRM Nationals after this upgrade. Its participants compete against each other in the national classes NC 1 to NC 9, which are divided according to cubic capacity. Models such as the Porsche Cayman 718S, Citroën C2, VW Golf 3 or Ford Focus fight for valuable seconds on the special stages. Rally history is offered to the fans in the DRM Classic. In this category, legendary cult cars that are over 30 years old and in technically original condition, from the Lancia Stratos and Ford Escort BDA to the Porsche 911 or Opel Ascona 400, complete their special stages. In addition, there are two other ADAC special classifications on the program: the Gentlemen’s Trophy for drivers over 40 in older RC2 and Super 2000 rally vehicles and the Junior Challenge for up-and-coming talent.

With 106 demanding kilometers, the 57th ADAC Rallye Erzgebirge demands everything from the drivers at the start of the German Rally Championship. A new circuit in the Stollberg district of Mitteldorf has to be completed twice in a row, one of which in the dark. The course continues with the classics of the Ore Mountains Rally in Jahnsdorf, Grünhain and Oberdorf. The absolute unique selling point in the tour calendar is the final circuit on Saturday, April 23, at the Sachsenring. From inside the track, spectators can follow the final kilometers of the special stage up close. The award ceremony will then take place in the Sachsenring press center.

The highlights of all seven rounds of the German Rally Championship can be seen exclusively on free-to-air television on n-tv. Every weekend after the racing events, the news channel broadcasts the 30-minute DRM magazine “PS – DRM Deutsche Rallye-Meisterschaft” on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Alternatively, the magazine can be accessed free of charge at any time in the n-tv media center or the RTL+ streaming platform.
