While Playstation gamers are anxiously awaiting God of War Ragnarok sometime in 2022, PC gamers can finally taste the first chapter of the new story of Kratos in the Nordic Kingdoms, thanks to a Steam version that keeps all its promises. Here, we’ll give you a complete recap of all our guides released when the PS4 version of God of War released in 2018.
Our opinion on the PC version
It looks like Sony has done things well for the arrival of the bearded man on our competition bikes, with a quality port, taking advantage of Nvidia’s excellent DLSS technology, which will relieve your config and allow better performance in 4K. Quality conversion, for an adventure that is just as good: the journey of Kratos and Atreus goes off course on a few rare occasions, but it remains without question an essential for your toy library, especially if you have already gone through the first three chapters of the God of War story on PS2 and PS3.
Combat, exploration and progression: the basics of gameplay
If you come from the God of War trilogy, this soft reboot will shake up your habits: hand-held camera, much more posed “souls light” combat, levels of experience and a great emphasis on exploration.… The 2018 version of Kratos has had a nice makeover and it fits like a glove. If all of this is confusing you and you thought you were just going to break mouths in the Northern Kingdoms, we help you understand next-gen GoW with 3 guides on the basics of the game.
Craft and equipment
This is another component completely absent from the beat them up 3D trilogy and which will be of great importance in this new episode: the manufacture of equipment. The chests and mounds to be cleared all over the map will give you a substantial variety of materials, which you can then use to craft better armor and upgrade anything related to Kratos and Atreus gear. This is going to be especially important if you’re playing on higher difficulty levels, but also to prepare you properly for the toughest boss fights in the game.
Niflheim and Muspelheim, the annexed kingdoms
Not all Kingdoms are accessible from the World Tree and two of them are simply secondary game modes that are perfectly integrated into the rest of the game. Instead of wandering through menus to select challenges, Santa Monica preferred to craft entire areas dedicated to these endgame side quests with fairly heavy content. We recommend that you do both: it will extend the life of the experience significantly, thanks to fun gameplay variations that will challenge you.
- Niflheim: Survive the mist and bring back a dedicated resource to better resist it. You will have to multiply the round trips in this toxic labyrinth if you intend to open all the sealed chests in the area.
- Muspelheim: Two big series of combat challenges, some of which are not stung by beetles. never get hit, defeat all enemies in a given time… You know the genre.
The Valkyrie Hunt
The 8 Valkyries and their leader are the ultimate bosses in God of War. Confronting them will require your composure, reflexes and a minimum of preparation by adapting your build to each of them. These fights are quite interesting and beating them will bring you some small bits of lore additional. Each guide is made up of a few tips to help you overcome these elite warriors, with a short video that goes well with them (sorry for our skill quite relative on most of them).
