All the films in this Marvel saga are rated 4 out of 5: a sequel in preparation?

While the film has just celebrated its 9th anniversary, TMC is rebroadcasting “Guardians of the Galaxy” this Monday, September 18. The opportunity to take stock of the future of the Marvel saga.

WARNING – The article below contains spoilers for “Guardians of the Galaxy 3”, released on video since September 8 in France. So please move on if you haven’t seen it and don’t want to know about it.

Arriving on tiptoe in the heart of summer 2014, Guardians of the Galaxy took the public and the box office by surprise. Three films and a little less than $2.5 billion in worldwide revenue later, director James Gunn left to see DC, to become the architect of their new connected universe.

Released last May, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 was also presented as the end of the adventure for Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Drax, Rocket, Mantis, Nebula and company. Without the feature film putting a real end to their story, which casts doubt on their future.

Contrary to what many fans feared, none of the heroes die in the third opus. Neither Rocket, whose story tells us the origins, nor Nebula, nor Gamora. Nor even Drax, while his interpreter Dave Bautista repeated to anyone who would listen that he was indeed done with the character, as the release approached.

With two Avengers films on the horizon, now scheduled for April 29, 2026 and May 5, 2027, there will be room for Guardians of the Galaxy to rear its head again at that time. But before ? The second post-credits scene of the latest film announces that “the legendary Star-Lord will return” while he returned to Earth, but there is nothing more.

To date, there is no Guardians of the Galaxy 4 among the films planned by Marvel Studios until 2027. And it is not with the actors’ and screenwriters’ strike, which could lead to further postponements of the schedule, that things will change soon.

When you’re waiting to go on an adventure again

The vagueness is therefore total. Or almost. If we rely on the first post-credits scene of the film released this year in theaters worldwide, the team at the heart of a future film should be the following: Rocket (Bradley Cooper), their new captain, Kraglin ( Sean Gunn), Cosmo (Maria Bakalova), a now-nice Adam Warlock (Will Poulter) and the very young Phyla (Kai Zen). Who might have grown up the next time we see her.

It remains to be seen when. Or. How. And with who behind the camera. So a lot of questions, which will probably not be answered right away. Which leaves enough time to review the trilogy signed James Gunn within the MCU. Then the appearances of the Guardians in Infinity War, Endgame and the start of Thor 4.
